Staying on Top of Your Goals in 2016

It’s the beginning of a new year, a time of good intentions, new goals and resolutions. If only meeting those goals were effortless—but alas, you need motivation and accountability. Here are some key ways to generate both.
Write. There is power in the pen, and when you write your goals down, you embed them in your subconscious and make them more real. In fact, it’s helpful to write them down frequently to keep them top of mind.
Plan. It’s admirable to have goals, but if you have no idea how to achieve them, they’ll remain unattainable. Develop a specific, step-by-step plan for accomplishing your goals. Do you need to hone new skills? Devote a certain time of day toward the goal? Reach out to new contacts? Determine exactly what it takes to get it done.
Visualize. Picture yourself once your goal is achieved. Just as elite runners imagine crossing the finish line (perhaps in first place), you too can harness the power of the mind by imagining your success.
Verbalize. Share your goals with others and, if possible, find a partner who is working toward the same goal. This creates accountability and gives others the opportunity to encourage—and challenge—you as you go.
Celebrate. Track your progress and celebrate milestones along the way. Refer back to your step-by-step action plan so you can see that you’re making headway, then reward yourself accordingly.
