Baby Boomers: Giving Back

Baby Boomers are changing the face of aging.
They’re living longer than previous generations, and they’re using that time wisely by staying active, traveling, starting businesses, and volunteering. If you’re a Boomer who wants to join the masses who are giving back to their communities, here are some worthy opportunities that might be right for you.
Food pantries and soup kitchens. While the variety of tasks abound—sorting and shelving donated food, delivering hot meals to patrons, cleaning up—the end result is the same. You help decrease the impact of poverty, and you leave feeling nourished yourself.
Habitat for Humanity. This exemplary organization brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. If you have construction or carpentry experience, all the better, but if you don’t, no problem. You can help out as a gofer on a job site.
Library or museum volunteers. Your efforts at the local library or in a museum can help keep a non-profit organization running smoothly and benefitting others. There are opportunities both behind the scenes and front and center as a tour guide.
Foster Grandparents Program. Tutor or teach the young minds of America through this program that lets seniors serve as role models. Foster Grandparents will train you to volunteer within schools, as part of faith-based organizations or in after-school mentoring programs.
By talking to an AAA agent and confirming that your insurance needs are being met, you can make the best use of your retirement and have more time for doing what you love, including giving back.
